District administration, Peshawar has decided launching of full pledge operation for removal of encroachments from graveyards in the city. The operation will be directly supervised by the District Co-ordination Officer and will continue till the retrieve of the single inch encroached land of the graveyards. Decision into this effect was taken in a meeting held here under the chairmanship of DCO, Mohammad Javed Marwat.

Besides, Assistant Co-ordination Officer (ACO), Habibullah Arif the meeting was also attended by HRDO, Naseer Khan, DOR, Syed Maqsood Shah, tehsildar, Bakhtiar Khan, DSP, Haji Imtiaz Khan, Deputy Director, Auqaf, Nadeem Ahmad, administrators of all towns, Director, PDA, Shujaat Ali, DSP Faqirabad, Sajjad and others.

Speaking in the meeting, District Co-ordination Officer, Peshawar, Mohammad Javed Khan Marwat said that an operation against encroachments on the land of graveyards is already in progress on the directives of Peshawar High Court. But, he said that operation for the elimination of encroachments on graveyards is essential to ensure that single inch encroached land of graveyards is retrieved to present a complete and comprehensive report in the court in this regard.

The participants of the meeting constituted a monitoring committee comprising of DOR, HRD and TMOs of all four towns of the district to monitor the operation against encroachements in the graveyards of Akhund Baba, Bakhshi Pul and Tajabad areas. The meeting directed SSP Operation for keeping a special squad of police on alert in police lanes to avert any unpleasant incident during the operation. Furthermore, Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) was directed for provision of heavy machinery and administrators of all towns to ensure the presence of their BCA staff in offices.

The meeting also sought an amount of Rs 50 million for erecting of boundary wall around the retrieved land during the operation to prevent future encroachments in the graveyards. The meeting decided the registration of formal FIRs against the encroachers and SHOs of the concerned police stations were directed to present copy of the notice issued to them. The SHOs were further directed to remain present during the operation along with contingent of police.
